Career Lens

Career Lens

about.

CareerLens is a web platform designed to help university students explore career options that align with their personal traits, interests, and goals. The platform offers personalized career assessments, detailed career information, mentorship opportunities, and skill-building workshops—all aimed at empowering students to make more informed career decisions.

challenge.

Challenge 1: Lack of Real-World Career Exposure

The Problem: 61% of students report that their career interests change during university, yet most lack meaningful exposure to day-to-day realities of their potential career paths. This disconnect leads to unrealistic expectations and poor career fit upon graduation.

Research Insight: Students struggle to visualize actual workplace scenarios, leading to career dissatisfaction and unnecessary professional pivots after graduation.

Challenge 2: Skills Assessment and Career Mapping Gap

The Problem: Students struggle to align their academic background, personal traits, and strengths with suitable career paths. There's a notable gap between what students believe they're capable of and what employers expect.

User Pain Point: "I find it difficult to visualize the day-to-day work... I want to experience that to learn what sort of things I would be doing."

Challenge 3: Professional Network Development Barriers

The Problem: Students recognize professional connections are crucial for success, yet many lack exposure to workplace environments and professionals in their field. Traditional networking methods have significant limitations - in-person events are geographically constrained and high-anxiety, while online platforms like LinkedIn often feel superficial.

Design Challenge: How might we create authentic professional connections that overcome geographical constraints while maintaining meaningful interactions?

Challenge 4: Navigation and Usability Issues

Technical Challenge: During user testing, participants couldn't easily find scheduled sessions ("Where can I find my booked schedule?") and felt some assessment features were "too simple" without clear AI-powered functionality indicators.
